Glass Production Facilities

ACE formed part of the professional team which successfully delivered two new glass furnaces and bottling facilities at the Ardagh Glass (Formerly Consol Glass) factory in Nigel, South Africa.  ACE were appointed as the Electrical Consulting Engineers for these projects.

ACE has gained specialist experience within the glass manufacturing industry and has worked on numerous projects in South Africa, Australia, United States and other international projects.  ACE is part of the Project Plus International (P+) consortium of professionals which includes professional Architects, Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineers offering clients a “single source” turnkey solution for the container and float glass industry.

5-Star Hotel

ACE were appointed as the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Consultants for the construction of the 5-star Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. This development marked the first purpose-built Marriott Hotel in South Africa and the debut of Marriott Executive Apartments in the country. ACE was responsible for the full Electrical & Electronic Engineering design services from 11kV infrastructure to hotel room automation systems and structured data cabling.

Micro Grid System

ACE were appointed as the Electrical Consulting Engineers and Principal Agent for the construction of a new 11kV coupled Micro-Grid system which included a 5.7MWp solar PV installation, 6.0MWh BESS (Battery Storage), 2.5MVA of synchronised generator capacity coupled to the grid.

In On-Grid mode, the system was designed to reduce the sites energy demand as well as take advantage of energy arbitrage on a time-of-use tariff.  During power failures or load shedding, the system was design to operate in an Off-Grid mode to enable the site to run independently on an optimal combination of solar energy, battery or diesel generator to ensure the facility was operational.

Solar PV Projects

ACE provides full end-to-end consulting services from budget and feasibility stage through to design, tender, construction and handover of a system.

ACE has successfully completed over 250MW of Solar PV projects across South Africa and all provinces. Solar PV systems have included roof top installations, car port installations, ground mount systems, hybrid & mirco-grid solutions with battery and generator integration.

ACE provides technical engineering services and project management services within the energy space to optimise energy use onsite during on-grid and off-grid scenarios.

ACE has worked with many of South Africa’s most respected property developers, corporates and private clients to ensure the Solar PV installation and energy production are compliant with the South African National Standards (SANS), Energy Regulator (NERSA) and Local Supply Authorities requirements.

Hybrid Energy System for Load Factor Control

ACE was appointed for design oversight and project management of a new 2.5 MWp solar PV installation coupled with a 4.3MWh battery energy storage system with the intention to manage the centres load factor as well as to save energy.

The battery installation was the largest commercial battery installation in South Africa at the time and successfully achieved the anticipated energy savings and active management of the centres load factor. The system has been successfully operating since 2023.

The system was integrated with existing onsite diesel generators to further enhance the systems ability to control load factor and the centres kVA demand.
